ARTIST TRUST ANNOUNCES 2006 ARTIST TRUST/WASHINGTON STATE ARTS COMMISSION FELLOWSHIPS

Artist Trust proudly announces the 21 recipients of the distinguished 2006 Artist Trust/Washington State Arts Commission Fellowships. Each recipient receives an unrestricted cash award of $6,000, for a total of $126,000 distributed.

The Fellowships recognize an artist’s creative excellence and accomplishment, professional achievement and continuing dedication to their artistic discipline. This year, the Fellowship Program received a total of 363 applications from artists working in Emerging & Cross-Disciplinary, Performing, Traditional & Folk, and Visual Arts. Recipients were selected by peer review panels comprised of artists and arts professionals from across Washington State, as well as from Oregon.

Through the Artist Trust/Washington State Arts Commission Fellowship program, Artist Trust has awarded $1,683,000 to 309 artists over the past 18 years. Since 1993, Artist Trust has maintained a successful cooperative partnership with the Washington State Arts Commission to administer six Fellowship awards on behalf of the State of Washington. Through the Fellowship Program, Artist Trust makes awards each year to artists working in four disciplines on a two-year rotating cycle. Please go to www.artisttrust.org/grants/FELL for information on next year’s Fellowship cycle; applications will be available in April 2007.

Fellowship recipients will be featured in the Winter 2006 edition of Artist Trust’s newsletter, Art Source, and on Artist Trust’s website at www.artisttrust.org/grants/recipient_profiles/FELL.

In addition to the Fellowship Program, Artist Trust administers the Twining Humber Award for Lifetime Artistic Achievement, which awards $10,000 to a female visual artist over 60 years of age, and the Grants for Artist Projects (GAP) Program, which awards project grants of up to $1,500 to develop, create or present new work in any discipline. Find out more at www.artisttrust.org/grants.

Artist Trust is a not-for-profit organization whose sole mission is to support and encourage individual artists working in all disciplines in order to enrich community life throughout Washington State.
