For Immediate Release Contact: Heather Joy Helbach-Olds, Director of Programs Nominations Sought for 2007 Twining Humber Award Nomination deadline: April 16, 2007 :: :: :: Artist Trust is proud to accept nominations for the Twining Humber Award for Lifetime Artistic Achievement. The annual award of $10,000 is given to a Washington State female visual artist, age 60 or over, who has dedicated 25 years of her life to creating art. The award recognizes creative excellence, professional accomplishment and dedication to the visual arts. Whidbey Island painter Mary Henry was the 2006 Twining Humber Award recipient. In 2005, painter Fay Jones received the award, following 2004 recipient Doris Chase, a Seattle painter, sculptor, and video artist. In 2003, Seattle jewelry artist Ramona Solberg was honored with the award; the 2002 winner was ceramicist Patty Warashina; photographer Mary Randlett of Olympia was selected as the inaugural award recipient in 2001. The Twining Humber Award for Lifetime Artistic Achievement is open to all visual artists who meet the eligibility requirements of the program listed above. In 2007, nominations will be accepted for artists working in all genres of the visual art discipline. Any U.S. resident may nominate an artist. Artists may NOT nominate themselves. After all nominations have been received, one nominee will be selected by a selection panel comprised of artists and/or arts professionals. This award is made possible by a generous gift from Yvonne Twining Humber to the Artist Trust Endowment Fund. Yvonne, who passed away in May 2004, was a painter of both urban and rural landscapes, and was employed by the Works Progress Administration from 1935 to 1943. Originally from New York City, Yvonne was raised in England and New England and then lived in Washington State for over 50 years. Yvonne established, with the estate she and her husband built together, a means to recognize women artists who have dedicated a lifetime to their artwork. The Frye Art Museum in Seattle will be exhibiting 12 of Yvonne’s paintings September 2007-January 2008.
