Local Sightings Film Festival

In celebration of Artist Trust’s 20th Anniversary, we were delighted to partner with the Northwest Film Forum for their 2007 Local Sightings Film Festival. In Artist Trust's 20 years of distributing grants to artists, there have been 24 recipients of the distinguished Artist Trust/Washington State Arts Commission Media Arts Fellowship Award. This special showcase honored the recipients and their work in a retrospective screening at Northwest Film Forum in Seattle.

Local Sightings is an annual showcase of current narrative, documentary and experimental film by Northwest artists. The week-long festival also features panel discussions, historic Northwest films, a filmmaker lounge, a stellar opening night party, and juried cash awards for a winning short and feature film! Check out www.nwfilmforum.org for full program details.

PAUSE – media installation in the main foyer

Seattle artists Heather Dew Oaksen (1999 Fellowship recipient) and Norie Sato (1993 Fellowship recipient), armed with identical cameras in opposite parts of the world, independently recorded a 10-second image at the same "common" time, six times a day, beginning each day one hour later, to record all 24 hours of a day in 24 days. Each of the six video monitors compiles four days in four minutes, so that the viewer experiences six days in two different places simultaneously, all in the first minute of airing. By juxtaposing serial images, a constantly shifting perspective is created. The exhibition was first organized by curator Beth Sellars for Suyama Space in partnership with Space.City.

When a soft-spoken young writer, Morris Monk (Justin Kirk) – inadvertently committed to an asylum for years due to a systems glitch – is relased into the “reall” world, his writings begin to blur the boundaries of reality and paranoid hallucination. And his therapist, Dr. Patricia Farrow (Catherine Kellner) begins to suspect she has unleashed a ruthless murderer. Co-produced by Carlos Scandiuzzi and Scilla Andreen; released via IndieFlix.
