PATTI WARASHINA
2002 Recipient of the Twining Humber
Award for Lifetime Artistic Achievement
Artist Trust is pleased to honor renowned Northwest artist, Patti Warashina of King County, as the second recipient of the prestigious Twining Humber Award for Lifetime Artistic Achievement. Widely recognized for her figurative ceramic works, Warashina writes, “Since I embarked on my journey as an artist, the image of the human body has been an absorbing visual fascination. It gives me a reference point to my own existence, the civilization in which I live, as well as my relationship to a historical past...” The selection panelists noted Warashina’s technical mastery of the ceramic medium, her innovative structural compositions, and complex and evolving visual vocabulary.
A two-step process was used to select the annual recipient of the 2002 Twining Humber Award for Lifetime Artistic Achievement – open nomination, followed by a peer panel review. Nominations were accepted from anyone wishing to nominate eligible candidates and fulfill all requirements of the nomination process. A peer panel comprised of three visual arts professionals chose the award recipient based foremost on artistic merit. This year’s panel included: curator and writer Lloyd E. Herman of Seattle; visual artist Lezlie Jane of Seattle; and visual artist Sheila Klein of Bow.
