The Reel Women International Film Festival Script Competition seeks original film scripts from women that encourage more diverse and powerful screen images of women. Five finalists and one winner will be chosen from each format (feature-length and short). All finalists will receive a script critique and passes to the Fifth Reel Women Film Festival held annually in March. Entry fee: $45 until June 1st, $55 until June 15th. NDK, the Nordic Artists' Centre in Dale, Norway offers 3 residency programs to visual artists and writers, researchers and groups. The program's mission is to encourage international contacts for artists and focuses on visual culture including design and architecture, locally rooted practice and Nordic as well as international processes. The selected individuals will receive a monthly stipend material allowance and a travel grant.

Frieze, a British magazine covering contemporary art and culture, seeks entries for it's 2008 Writer's Prize. Submit one 700 word review of a recent contemporary art exhibition. The winning entrant will be commissioned to write a review for the October issue of frieze and be awarded £2000. No entry fee.

University of California Irvines Department of Spanish and Portuguese 34th Chicano/Latino Literary Prize competition seeks unpublished short stories (175 page minimum) First Prize: $1,000, Second Prize: $500, Third Prize: $250.

The Alicia Patterson Foundation awards one-year and six months grants of up to $35,000 to working journalists to pursue independent projects of significant interest and to write articles based on their investigations for The APF Reporter, a quarterly magazine published by the Foundation and available on the web. Applicants must be U. S. citizens.
