Kirkland Arts Center presents innovative, engaging visual arts exhibits that showcase contemporary artists and provide rare opportunities for emerging curators. 

Arts Center exhibits regularly garner critical acclaim in publications such as the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, The Seattle Times, The Seattle Weekly and The King County Journal and reaches. “…Kirkland Arts Center is setting the pace and gold standard for professional exhibition standards.” Matthew Kangas, The Seattle Times, June 16, 2006.

The Arts Center’s Satellite exhibits at Kirkland City Hall, the Kirkland Library, Design Within Reach and Kirkland Performance Center bring the work of local artists out into the public, making art a part of thousands of area resident’s lives. makeARTKirkland Arts Center is the only organization offering in-depth training in a wide variety of visual arts on the Eastside. 

In 2007 KAC will present 270 classes and workshops for more than 2,400 students of all ages.Approximately 30% of KAC students live in Kirkland, 65% live in other areas around the Puget Sound, and 5% reside outside of King and Snohomish counties. Every year the Arts Center employs 75 master artist-instructors, which helps ensure that these artists continue to contribute to King County’s vibrant arts community.Kirkland Arts Center works with schools and community organizations such as Hopelink and the Kirkland Teen Union Building to bring arts education to a broad range of young people and their families.

KAC provides “Teacher Training” workshops for teachers, art docents, parents and all those who teach art to young people. experienceARTKirkland Arts Center hosts free Artist Lectures, an arts-focused Literary Salon, gallery talks and other events that connect the community with the arts.

KAC owns and maintains the historic Peter Kirk Building, the oldest building in Kirkland and a City, State and Federal landmark. The Arts Center makes the building accessible to community groups at nominal fees and frequently hosts tours of our 1891 “gem,” working to educate the community about Kirkland’s history.

The Kirland Arts Center is looking for independant curators to submit work for the center's 2010 schedule. Work is accepted from all media types and will be considered for a 3 1/2 week solo exhibition.

Unique opportunity. Intern will work closely with the Kirkland Arts Center (KAC) Administration Director on a new project to develop a comprehensive plan of written marketing materials for current and future use in KAC printed material (catalogs, e-newsletters, website).  Internship open to college or university level students.  Recent graduates okay.


Kirkland Arts Center / Gallery Intern

Gallery internship available, summer 2007 at Kirkland Arts Center.

The Gallery Intern for Kirkland Arts Center assists the Artistic Director on the management of all KAC Gallery activities and special events.  It is an excellent opportunity to gain experience working in a contemporary art gallery with professional staff in a dedicated fast-paced non-profit arts organization.  The Gallery Intern reports to the Artistic Director and works closely with other members of the Arts Center’s administrative staff on various aspects of marketing and PR.


Kirkland Arts Center / Education Intern

Summer internship available at Kirkland Arts Center for high school graduate actively pursuing college or university level degree in education, arts management or related field.  Recent graduates okay.  Intern will work closely with KAC School and Studio Director on summer art camp programs and Hopelink summer programs for youth ages 5-12.  The intern will serve as staff liaison for the students, parents and organizations involved in the summer camps.
