SIFF announces the fourth Youth Fly Filmmaking experience for youths ages 13-19, a partnership between SIFF and Longhouse Media's Native Lens program. Fly Filmmaking is an artistic, creative, and stimulating form of filmmaking in which local filmmakers and actors can showcase their skills, collaborate with other artists, and premier their work at SIFF. Because of the incredibly short duration of time allotted to the filmmakers and actors, this process can be referred to as "on the fly," hence the name Fly Filmmaking. The program will be held June 3-5 2010 at the Pacific Northwest Reservation and on Capitol Hill in Seattle.
Participating students will:
- Work with 50 other youth filmmakers and actors from across the country for 36 hours to plan, shoot, and edit a short film
- Screen their finished film at FutureWave, SIFF's youth film showcase
- Meet local and national adult filmmakers, actors, guest artists, and storytellers
- Learn about the culture of a local tribe and participate in some Pacific Northwest Native American feasting
- Meet a lot of interesting people, make friends from across the country, and make movies.
Youth from 13-19 can apply to participate in SuperFly 2010. The application packet is available at http://www.siff.net/_misc/SIFF2010/5thAnnualSuperFlyYouthApp.pdf.
