Position Description: RVCC Facilities Manager 

Background

SouthEast Effective Development (SEED0 is a 32-year-old community development organization that works to strengthen and revitalize southeast Seattle neighborhoods through its three program areas arts & culture, affordable housing and economic development. SEED hosts a comprehensive arts program that is seeking a committed professional to join the arts team as the RVCC Facilities Manager. A strong candidate will have experience in both rental management and technical support. 

Rainier Valley Cultural Center

The Rainier Valley Cultural Center (RVCC) is located in Southeast Seattle and is the area’s only community-based performing arts center. It offers an excellent performance space in as classic, two-story building. Located in the Columbia City Landmark Business District, the Center accommodates a broad spectrum of arts disciplines including theater, dance, literary events and musical performances. In addition, a lower level banquet facility provides a comfortable space for meetings, classes and community or family gatherings, and includes a full service kitchen. RVCC’s mission is to enhance the character and quality of life for Southeast Seattle neighborhoods through the presentation of a variety of artistic performances and community initiated events. RVCC serves SE Seattle resident through an annual presenting season and as a rental facility for community events. 

Position

The RVCC Facilities Manager will be responsible for responding to and handling all rental requests, managing maintenance issues and performing some technical support for Center users. 

Structure

This .75FTE position reports to the SEEDArts Director and will be part of a team of 6 arts staff. The position will work collaboratively with the Rainier Valley Youth Theater Artistic Director, a resident drama company at RVCC and program of SEEDArts.

Duties and Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

Rental request intake and scheduling:  Receive and record all rental requests, show facility to all prospective clients, acquaint client with all rental rules and regulations, keep schedule of tentative and confirmed uses. Schedule rentals and programs: Negotiate contracts and invoices, receive and record payment, receive and track damage deposits, open and close up facility; inspect premises after each rental, provide technical assistance and referrals as needed to all users. Oversee facility operations:  Inspect premises and grounds on an ongoing basis; inventory and order janitorial supplies and materials; schedule needed repairs and maintenance; oversee janitorial service and works with equipment an service vendors on routine an special orders; assist with emergency response to fire, police and other safety issues of Center. Manage the technical aspects of performances and projects:  Work with clients to determine the necessary technical support, including lighting, sound, staging and special needs that are necessary for events and performances presented at RVCC. Monitor, maintain and inventory all technical equipment. Perform administrative tasks: Review and code all invoices and expense for building and programs; maintain RVCC files and databases; write an send letters and memos as requested; update organizational mailing list wit all RVCC clients; track and report rental income and donated space for funders and public agencies.

The ideal Facilities Manager will: 
Demonstrate excellent customer service skills and experience working with people from diverse walks of life.
 
Have knowledge of and experience with techniques, methods and procedures of theatre, dance, and music productions and presentations including stage, set, sound and lighting design and implementation; stage management; computerized lighting systems, some stage carpentry; appropriate safe precautions and procedures; and basic computer troubleshooting.
 
Be able to analyze and evaluate the need for technical support for various events and performances; plan, develop, schedule and help provide the technical support required for each event, space of performance.
 
Understand and operate lighting and sound systems appropriate to each performance
 
Effective oral and written communications skills
 
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with representatives of various groups, vendors, co-workers and others.
 
Maintain irregular and extended working hours, as evening and weekend hours are required. Be available for some holiday events.
 
Have reliable, consistent transportation. Be able to life, push or pull objects up to 50 pounds.

Other position Requirements: Candidates selected for this position must pass a criminal history background check prior to employment with SEED.
Compensation: This .75 FTE position pays $17 per hour, plus medical and dental benefits. Ten holidays are paid annually. Application
