Washington State Arts Commission / Governor's Arts & Heritage Awards / Call for Nominations

The Washington State Arts Commission invites you to help recognize and honor outstanding artists, arts organizations, arts educators, supporters and cultural leaders in our state.

The Governor's Arts and Heritage Awards will be presented in January 2008. The Awards are among the most prestigious honors bestowed by the Governor; 145 individuals, artists, and organizations have received Arts Awards, and 48 individuals and organizations have been honored with a Heritage Award.

The Governor's Arts Awards were established in 1966 to recognize individuals, organizations, and artists for their significant contributions to the creative vitality of Washington State. The award is a comprehensive award, not one solely for the creation of quality artwork, community service, or financial contribution; it is for all of these and more. The Heritage Awards were established in 1989 to honor outstanding individuals and organizations whose dedication to preserving and promoting traditions and cultural heritage is worthy of state recognition.

The Washington State Arts Commission (WSAC) is the state agency established in 1961 to support the arts as essential to the state's social, educational and economic growth, and to contribute to Washington's quality of life and the well being of its citizens. WSAC is governed by 4 legislators and 19 governor appointed citizens.

Nominations are due October 26, 2007. The nomination form is available online at www.arts.wa.gov.
