Do you know Washington State's next Poet Laureate? The Washington State Arts Commission is seeking applications for Washington's poet laureate, to promote poetry throughout the state for a two-year term. Applications are due October 29, 2007. The Poet Laureate selection will be announced by Governor Chris Gregoire this December.
Qualified applicants must be current residents of the state of Washington and have had at least one full-length book of poetry published. Additional qualifications and guidelines are outlined in the Poet Laureate Application Form available online.
The poet laureate will engage in activities to encourage the writing, reading and appreciation of poetry within the state, including but not limited to readings, workshops, lectures, or presenta¬tions. Over a two-year term, these programs will take place in a variety communities and settings across Washington. The Poet Laureate will be announced by Governor Chris Gregoire in December 2007.
