SUNY Potsdam Department of Theatre and Dance / Assistant Professor of Dance & Theatre 

The SUNY Potsdam Department of Theatre and Dance invites applications for a full-time, tenure track position as an Assistant Professor to teach in both disciplines, starting in August 2008.  Primary responsibilities include teaching all levels of Contemporary Dance Technique, Improvisation and/or Dance Composition, and Movement for Actors/Physical Theatre. Other desirable areas of expertise include, Interdisciplinary Performance studies and techniques, Digital Video processing/ production and archiving, Jazz or African based dance forms, Ballet, Actor training, Bartenieff Fundamentals, Kinesiology and/or other Somatic-based practice.

Additional responsibilities include advising and mentoring of students, conducting and publishing research and/or artistic endeavors, and participating in department and college wide service activities.

Minimum required qualifications: MFA in Dance, Theatre or Performance Studies or other terminal degree with minimum 1-3 years previous teaching experience in higher education or equivalent professional experience.

Preference will be given to candidates who are committed to and have experience in interdisciplinary learning and the application of new technologies in teaching and scholarship.  Candidates will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to collaborative learning and teaching strategies in a student-focused, undergraduate liberal arts department.  Final candidates will be expected to present their artistic work through video and other portfolio media.   Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience, benefits included.
