Seattle Art Museum / Seeks Associate Manager of Public Relations 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  1. Work closely with journalists to develop stories for SAM’s three sites.
  2. Create press materials and manage images.
  3. Organize and accompany press on photo shoots and SAM tours.
  4. Serve as one of the museum’s spokespersons.
  5. Develop messaging, speeches and other external communications.
  6. Create SAM press kits.
  7. Coordinate all aspects of event management for press-related events.
  8. Administrative functions such as update media lists, coordinate mailings and filing.
  9. Track all SAM press coverage.
  10. Participate in public speaking engagements.
  11. Schedule and administer the department’s volunteers/interns.
  12. Forge strategic partnerships with other organizations in the community.
  13. Assist with SAM’s community outreach initiatives.
  14. Performs other duties as assigned.

  QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  1. BA/BS in journalism, communications, public relations or related field.
  2. Strong written and oral communication skills; Able to communicate effectively and project a professional image with media.
  3. Prior experience in working with journalists and writing press materials.
  4. Demonstrated expertise & proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Photoshop) and Internet.
  5. Able to work independently and in a team setting with a high level of initiative, creativity, tact and professionalism.
  6.  Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  7.  Able to take initiative, prioritize multiple competing tasks and meet deadlines.
  8. Routinely take a proactive approach to problem resolution; demonstrated and strong organizational & time-management skills.  Ability to work accurately with close attention to detail.
