ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Â
- Work closely with journalists to develop stories for SAM’s three sites.
- Create press materials and manage images.
- Organize and accompany press on photo shoots and SAM tours.
- Serve as one of the museum’s spokespersons.
- Develop messaging, speeches and other external communications.
- Create SAM press kits.
- Coordinate all aspects of event management for press-related events.
- Administrative functions such as update media lists, coordinate mailings and filing.
- Track all SAM press coverage.
- Participate in public speaking engagements.
- Schedule and administer the department’s volunteers/interns.
- Forge strategic partnerships with other organizations in the community.
- Assist with SAM’s community outreach initiatives.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
 QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- BA/BS in journalism, communications, public relations or related field.
- Strong written and oral communication skills; Able to communicate effectively and project a professional image with media.
- Prior experience in working with journalists and writing press materials.
- Demonstrated expertise & proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Photoshop) and Internet.
- Able to work independently and in a team setting with a high level of initiative, creativity, tact and professionalism.
- Â Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
- Â Able to take initiative, prioritize multiple competing tasks and meet deadlines.
- Routinely take a proactive approach to problem resolution; demonstrated and strong organizational & time-management skills. Ability to work accurately with close attention to detail.
