The Woven Painting

Mar 22 2008 - 4:00pm

Julie Alexander, a 2006 Artist Trust Fellowship recipient, will present and discuss a selection of her current work. She will show drawings, watercolors, an oil on canvas and a slide show of paintings. Julie's paintings and drawings are organic grids. They are layered accumulations of horizontal and vertical lines which present an embodied approach to landscape.

Julie's oil paintings over the past five years have developed from muticolored, open grid patterns to almost exclusively blue/turquoise paintings with a waterfall of lines. There is a growing relationship between her works on paper and the paintings which is evident in the watercolors and stronger still in the 2007 drawings and 2008 paintings. The grids of both are taut and resolved yet reveal the process and its layers.

Artist Trust's Meet the Artist program is an integral component of the annual Artist Trust/Washington State Arts Commission Fellowship award. Meet the Artist events bridge our artistic community with the diverse communities in Washington State, increasing awareness about the vital roles art and artists play in our culture.
