Pratt Fine Arts Center / Applications for 2008-2009 Scholarships Available! 

   Pratt Fine Arts Center is proud to announce 11 impressive scholarships for 2008-2009.  As an arts education and resource center, Pratt is committed to making its classes available to those interested in attending by offering workstudy http://www.pratt.org/PRIMARY/aid.html#workstudy , tuition assistance http://www.pratt.org/PRIMARY/aid.html#tuition, and a variety of merit scholarships http://www.pratt.org/PRIMARY/aid.html#scholarships.   All awards are to be used in programs offered at Pratt. Scholarships for adults and teens, artists of color, and emerging and established artists are offered in all of the visual arts disciplines taught in our studios.

 Applications for scholarships are available online at www.pratt.org and at the front desk at Pratt Fine Arts Center. Application deadlines are July 1, 2008 at 5pm. The scholarships are valid from September 1, 2008 through August 31, 2009.

Pratt Fine Arts Center 2008-2009 Scholarships:

All Studios The Art Bridge Fellowship (merit/adult) http://www.pratt.org/SCHOLARSHIPS/artbridge2008.html 
provides generous awards to four emerging artists from Washington State for use towards classes, supplies, and portfolio development for one year at Pratt Fine Arts Center. The program includes educational experiences including gaining technical expertise, professional training through Artist Trust’s EDGE program, access to equipment, and an opportunity to engage with Pratt’s artistic community. (Note: Application materials are due June 30th.)  

PONCHO/PRATT Artist-in-Residence (merit/adult)

Four emerging artists from Washington State are selected for this merit program sponsored by PONCHO. Artists are provided with a $500 honorarium and $1000 credit towards classes or studio use. Artists also participate in an annual exhibition of PONCHO/PRATT scholarship winners.  

Gregory M. Robinson Pathways Scholarship (merit/adult)

This $2,000 financial need scholarship was founded by Greg Robinson (former executive director of Pratt) to support artists of color and to promote diversity at Pratt. The award is designed to provide intensive and sustained training and technical support for artists of color who wish to pursue a specific pathway.

One $1,500 scholarship is awarded to an emerging artist with a demonstrated commitment to their art. Established in honor of Mimi Pierce.  

Teens and Young Adults

Italo Scanga Scholarship (financial need/merit/teens and young adults)

Established by Pedro and Wanda Pelayo in honor of Italo Scanga to celebrate his life as a multi-media artist. The $600 award is designed to provide teens and young adults of color with the opportunity to explore their talents in various studios. (This is available for all studios except jewelry).  Two scholarships for teens 15-19 years of age and two scholarships for young adults 20-25 years of age are available.

PohlmanKnowles High School Scholarship (merit/teens)

This scholarship was founded by and named in honor of artists Jenny Pohlman and Sabrina Knowles through the generous support of Beth and Mike Davies. Selected high school students with a desire to explore art will be awarded scholarships for classes and workshops in any studio.  

Vascovitz Teen Scholarship in Drawing and Painting (merit/financial need)

Four $250 scholarships will be available for high school students ages 16-19. Scholarship funds may be used for credit toward classes or workshops (including fees and membership) in Pratt’s drawing and painting studios. 

Glass

Jon and Mary Shirley Scholarship (merit/adult)
Two scholarships will be awarded to emerging glass artists 18 years or older who wish to pursue new or experimental directions with their medium.  $1,875 is provided to each recipient for classes, workshops, or studio rental in the Pratt glass studios.  

Debora Moore Scholarship in Glass (merit/financial need).  Established in honor of glass artist Debora Moore for single parents or other primary care givers. One $1,500 scholarship will be awarded to be used towards tuition, membership, and studio rental. The award will be given to an emerging artist demonstrating financial need and a commitment to their art. The recipient should focus on exploring new techniques or taking their work to the next level. 

Painting

Vascovitz Family Scholarship in Drawing and Painting (merit/financial need/adult)

Two $2,000 scholarships will be awarded to adult emerging artists to be used for credit toward classes or workshops (including fees and membership) in Pratt’s drawing and painting studios. 

Printmaking

Seattle Print Arts Society Scholarship (merit/adult)

This $1000 scholarship is awarded to a student with a dedicated interest and commitment to printmaking. The award is for use in Pratt’s printmaking classes or workshops, studio access and studio supplies.
