Ferndale Arts Commission / Call for Public Art

The Ferndale Arts Commission (FAC) seeks an artwork for the Centennial Riverwalk Park in Ferndale, Washington. The piece will be sited in the Park’s fountain, located at the northern end of the Park, fronting Main Street.

Guidelines:
-Create a focal point of excitement and interest for the community
-Celebrate and enhance the positive impact the Riverwalk has had on the community
-Inspire the young people to remember the past, and inspire them to see a legacy that belongs to them and to future generations
-Stimulate economic opportunities and interest for the downtown corridor
The artists’ willingness to research the community and have a dialogue with interested community members is integral toward developing the artwork.

The artwork must be durable, low maintenance, and appropriate to the location. The artist should take into consideration the high amount of pedestrian traffic within the park, light (both natural and electric), the water environment, and temperature control when designing the artwork.

Works in a variety of media and forms will be considered. Examples of media include, but are not limited to: metal, stone, concrete, ceramic, glass and composite.

The approximate $75,000 budget includes all costs associated with the project, including but not limited to: artist’s design fee, travel, materials, fabrication costs, documentation, and transportation and installation of the work.

Artist teams are eligible to apply, including teams of artists from multiple disciplines.
