Personal Statement

I specialize in black and white photography.  I seek to create compelling images using natural light and a bit of serendipity.
 
My current work involves photographing people in their environments.  I use two approaches for this endeavor.  My candid work in public spaces captures spontaneous gestures, fleeting interpersonal interactions and ephemeral juxtapositions of people and their surroundings.  These photos are neither posed nor staged, and I do not interact with my subjects when making these images.  In contrast, my portraiture work involves an active collaboration and consequently reveals deeper insights into the nature of my subjects.  I favor complex images that contain both a strong visual component and provide an invitation to linger and discover other elements within.  Situations that are unexpected, mysterious, humorous, bizarre or poignant intrigue me.  My goal is to capture these passing moments so that they may be carefully examined.
