Thank you for supporting these NW artists. A. K. Allin, Curator Jan Wallace – Jan Wallace splits her time between teaching poetry and writing advertising copy. A Seattle native, she is thrilled to be back after a long stay in the Midwest where she conducted extensive cheese research. Her poems have appeared in various journals including Field and Poetry Northwest. She has one chapbook, Kickpleat in the Cosmos, Cling Peaches Press. Tom Semple - Tom Semple is a northwest artist working in multiple media. He has a BFA from the University of Montana and an MFA from Central Washington University. His recent work deals with bringing awareness to issues of community. “My work operates within the principles of synthesis, where disparate parts (concepts, media, people), sometimes complete in themselves, are brought together to create a synergistic combination. My focus is on bringing awareness to our shared humanity and responsibilities while creating opportunities for interaction and community. With an a priori focus on visual art I attempt to include aesthetic elements that invite the viewer to participate in some way with the work. Even though the work may at times address large scale political and cultural events, it is the small scale interaction between individuals that I encourage. That, I feel, is where real change can occur.” Phinney Neighborhood Association (Phinney Center Gallery) |
