Pierce County Arts & Cultural Services is seeking to expand its inventory of portable artworks by purchasing original artworks from Pierce County artists. Visual artists living and/or working in Pierce County are welcome to submit artwork for consideration. Artworks purchased will be displayed in buildings occupied by Pierce County government offices. All artworks must meet the following criteria: artwork must be intended for display on the wall, and must be framed or otherwise ready for hanging; artwork must be an original painting, drawing, etc., or a signed limited edition work of a printmaker or photographer; artwork should be no smaller than 3 square feet and no larger than 12 square feet (measured by multiplying height times width); artwork may be composed of multiple pieces hung together; artwork should not extend more than 4 inches from the wall surface; artwork should not require a power source such as an electrical outlet, batteries or running water. No more than one artwork will be purchased from any one artist or artist team. Artists whose artwork has been purchased in previous years are welcome to submit again. Selection Process: Submissions are due in the Arts & Cultural Services office by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, October 31, 2008. Submissions will be reviewed during the month of November and final decisions will be made in early December. Responses will be sent to applicants in mid-December. Please note the following: all submissions will be reviewed by a jury comprised of artists and art experts. Note: Jury members are not allowed to submit artworks for consideration. Selected artworks must be of distinctive artistic merit, aesthetic quality and appropriateness for a public setting. Artworks will be considered in the overall context of the County collection. We reserve the right to make no purchases or selections. Submission Guidelines: In order to submit artworks for consideration, please mail or drop off the following information to the Arts & Cultural Services Office by 4:30 p.m., October 31, 2008.
