Late Saturday Afternoon: Portrait August 2, 2008 :: 5-6pm 2007 Grants for Artist Projects (GAP) recipient Maki Morinoue directs Late Saturday Afternoon: Portrait, an experiment on waves of repetitive movement and progressive sounds. Dancers will perform in the center of the sidewalk so that pedestrians must walk through them. Music is an original sound score by Morinoue broadcast from speakers attached to the dancers' costumes. Â Late Saturday Afternoon: Portrait is made possible in part by Artist Trust's Grants for Artist Projects (GAP) Program.
Warmth, Giant Black Toobs 2008 Grants for Artist Projects (GAP) recipient Susan Robb has installed her Warmth, Giant Black Toobs at the Sammamish Farmers Market. "In Warmth, Giant Black Toobs, the artist uses solar power and ambient breezes to give life to the ever-present black plastic garbage bag. Polypropylene garbage bags, 50 feet tall by 30 inches in diameter, are inflated with air by allowing the wind to fill them or by running with them. One end is staked to the ground; the other end is free... Solar-produced buoyancy, breezes, and internal convection work to transform this symbol of the (American) cycle of consumption and waste into seemingly sentient creatures, live plastic hybrids whose choreography brings to mind the very sea creatures our epoch's mass of waste effects. Warmth is sited in park locations for practical reasons (the Toobs need wide open green space), but also on conceptual grounds as it creates a dialogue with the park itself pointing to the fact that the park is man-made vision of the natural world, a vision of nature control while the Toobs appear to have a mind of their own." Â Warmth, Giant Black Toobs was made possible in part by Artist Trust's Grants for Artist Projects (GAP) Program.

Take the Pulse® The CodeBlueNow! Pulse® is a public policy tool that surveys Americans' ideas and values on what is important to them in a new health care system. The findings measure the pulse of the public's views on health care reform. The Pulse® is designed to report on areas of consensus and common ground by measuring how strongly people feel on a range of issues. The tool gathers input on respondents' views on a delivery system, how it should be paid for, and who should manage it. It was developed by CodeBlueNow!, whose mission is to create strong public will for change by engaging the public in designing, shaping and promoting a template for a new health care system. Artist Trust and the Washington Artists Health Insurance Project (WAHIP) have been asked by CodeBlueNow! to reach out to artists of all creative persuasions so that their opinions will be included in the core data. This data will be used to develop proposals to present to elected leaders for policy reform. By completing this survey the voices of artists are kept in the conversation. The data from the survey will also help us in tracking information on artists and health coverage. Take the Pulse now (or paste http://www.questionpro.com/akira/TakeSurvey?id=10088633 into your browser).
