From the Desk of Jim Woodring

Spring 2009

Dear Arts Supporter,

Gestures like this delightful note from visual artist Jim Woodring brighten my day! Jim’s words exemplify what so many artists tell us about our financial grants and professional development resources – the importance of our support and the impact it has on their artwork and careers.  The brief summary below of Jim’s recent accomplishments offers a glimpse of just one talented recipient among the thousands of stellar and dedicated artists in our state.

For Artist Trust to continue doing the "magnificent" work that Jim cites, we need your financial support. Please consider making a meaningful donation prior to the end of our fiscal year, June 2009.  Know that we will use your tax-deductible gift judiciously to provide individual artists with financial support and professional resources. You can help us offer musicians, writers, visual and craft artists, filmmakers, dancers and artists in all creative disciplines the opportunity to create.

On behalf of the artists we serve, thank you for supporting art at the source.

Fidelma McGinn
Executive Director

Jim Woodring is the consummate artist in whatever media he chooses to work. As a comic book author and artist, Comic-Con International awarded him a 2008 Inkpot Award and the 2007 Angouleme International Comics Festival invited him to France as the guest of honor. The Recording Academy nominated him for a Grammy award in 2006 for his cover artwork on a Ramones album. That same year, United States Artists selected Jim with Bill Frisell for a national Fellowship Award in Music honoring their collaborative projects of short animated films, books, and performances. Jim also designs toys and surreal creations that sell in vending machines in Japan and select comics shops in America. In his spare time, Jim exhibits his artwork in solo and group shows internationally.
